IDPs who have found shelter in places of compact living (dormitories, modular towns, kindergartens) often do not have basic necessities for everyday comfort. As part of the United Voices in Action project, which is implemented jointly with IREX in Ukraine, our Foundation provides the internally displaced persons with the necessary equipment, folding beds and bed linen.
The first batch of aid was transferred on September 7 in the city of Pervomaiskyi, Kharkiv region. 350 internally displaced persons temporarily staying in three places of the compact living received:
- 2 washing machines
- 2 refrigerators
- 2 boilers
- 2 microwave ovens
- 2 ovens
- 15 multicookers
- 15 teapots
- 10 extension cords
- 10 irons
- 72 sets of bed linen, pillows and blankets
- 28 folding beds.
“The majority of IDPs living in the collective centers of Pervomaiskyi city are families from Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as well as the partially occupied Izium and Balakliya districts of Kharkiv region, says Olga Averina, the regional coordinator of our Foundation in Kharkiv region. – These are mostly families with children, there are also many single elderly people. By the way, many IDPs evacuated with their pets: cats live in the centers, along with a guinea pig and a decorative rabbit.
Naturally, household appliances are not designed for such a number of people. In order to prepare food, wash clothes or take a shower, people had to stand in queues. That’s why we handed over the most necessary household appliances to three kindergartens.”
Mayor Mykola Baksheev and the Head of the Education Department Alina Sadchenko received the humanitarian aid on behalf of the community. The mayor of the city expressed his sincere gratitude to CF SSS and Olga Averina for many years of support and cooperation (our Foundation has been working in the community since 2016).
“The received assistance significantly improves everyday life, allows to create conditions close to home and reduce tension among the residents of the center,” said Alina Sadchenko.
