We have procured tools that will assist municipal workers in mitigating the aftermath of shelling in the border community of Semenivka, Chernihivska Oblast.
The Semenivka community shares a border with Russia and experiences almost daily artillery shelling. In May, they were targeted with airstrikes, and in July, Russia carried out a nighttime drone attack using Shahed UAVs on the city center. Seeking to expedite and enhance the quality of the repairs to the damaged buildings, the community requested assistance.
“Overcoming the aftermath of shelling and missile attacks goes beyond utility payments; it’s simply one group of people assisting another. They submitted a request for charitable assistance consisting of tools for two communal enterprises. Thanks to ChooseLove, we quickly raised funds, acquired, and delivered the necessary tools,” says Tetiana Korma, the regional coordinator in the Chernihivska Oblast.
Among the tools provided were screwdrivers, angle grinders, power saws, rotary hammers, and soldering irons for pipes. All of these tools will aid in rebuilding destroyed buildings and repairing housing for displaced individuals.
“Many of the buildings housing IDPs were constructed long ago and have never had running water. Our communal workers provide daily, free water connections to these homes where people from rural areas are resettling. This is just one of several areas where these tools will be applied. Additionally, after the missile attacks and shelling, we carry out roof repairs. These tasks are also undertaken by our communal workers, whose working conditions have been particularly challenging due to the lack of appropriate equipment. Therefore, this assistance is a true lifesaver for us, and we are sincerely grateful for it,” says Serhiy Dedenko, the head of the Semenivska community.
