Fedir is among those we’ve assisted in rebuilding homes damaged by the Russian aggression. Nearing his 80th birthday, he’s been giving back as a volunteer for the past year and a half.
“I’ll never forget the day I began volunteering—March 3, 2022,” recounts Fedir. “I happened to be near the ZAZ car factory when some men approached and asked if I wanted to help. Since that day, I haven’t been back to my village.”
Before the full-scale war began, Fedir resided in Voznesenka, a village in the now-occupied region of Zaporizka Oblast. He’s since relocated to Zaporizhzhia. Sadly, Fedir’s Zaporizhzhia apartment was among those damaged by a missile strike on the city during the night of October 8-9. The missile wreaked havoc on an entire section of a multi-story building, and even though he lived a little distance away, the shockwave shattered two windows in his apartment. We have already helped him in repairing his home.
As part of the project Humanitarian Assistance to Besieged Cities and IDP-Hosting Locations Inside Ukraine, we’ve successfully finished 75 repair projects in Zaporizhzhia.
The Humanitarian Assistance to Besieged Cities project is being implemented by the Charity Foundation Stabilization Support Services with the support of the humanitarian organization CARE.Ukraine.
