On July 2nd at the Ukrainian Crisis Media Centre, Charity Foundation Stabilization Support Services (CF SSS), in participation with Oliver Firelamb (First Secretary of the British Embassy in Ukraine) and Barbora Maronkova (Director of the NATO Information and Documentation Center), presented their upcoming educational board game “NATO-Ukraine.” Its purpose is to help Ukrainian youth better understand NATO and the positive impact of cooperation with the North Atlantic Alliance in Ukraine. The project is being implemented with financial support from the British Embassy Kyiv.
“It is the first NATO-related project funded by the British Embassy in Ukraine,” mentioned Firelamb. The design and mechanics of the game is currently being developed.
“We believe that the project will explain the benefits of introducing NATO-supported reforms to Ukrainian youth in a clear and interesting way. It will also clarify what real impact these reforms would have on different socio-economic groups in the country, as well as on Ukraine’s potential in the areas of defence, politics, democratic governance and environmental security,” commented Olha Ivanova, project director at CF SSS.
The project team is planning to have 24 presentations in Kyiv and various regions nationwide. The project will address high school and university students from all over Ukraine. An information campaign, planned within the framework of the project, will raise awareness of the benefits of Euro-Atlantic integration among youth.
“One of the most significant reasons why we believe this project is very important is the need for more information about NATO among a wider audience. The Alliance is more than just the tanks: it’s a North Atlantic family that cares about its members,” said Maronkova.
Educational institutions will receive 57 copies of the board game free of charge. All users will be able to access a free online version for personal download and printing.
The NATO-Ukraine board game will be the third CF SSS project that uses gamification to explain important and challenging issues in Ukrainian society. The team previously developed “To Be A Woman,” a board game about gender stereotypes and female discrimination in Ukraine, as well as “IDP Adventure,” the first anti-discrimination board game about internally displaced persons (IDPs).
