There are few children left in de-occupied Kherson – mostly these are children of critical infrastructure workers. These New Year’s Eve days were supposed to be a time of joy and entertainment for children, but due to constant shelling they are forced to hide in basements. Together with ChooseLove and “I am Kherson” Foundation, we were able to deliver candy sets to little Kherson residents to bring at least some joy to the kids in these difficult times.
It is dangerous to distribute humanitarian aid in the city, as the Russians are specifically targeting the crowded places. However, this is not an obstacle for volunteers who want to help the local population. Since November, immediately after the de-occupation, they began to deliver humanitarian kits in the city, and at the same time to collect addresses where children live. This way they were able to deliver the candy sets without exposing children to additional risk.
The children were really happy to receive small gifts on the New Year’s eve. We hope that they will be able to have a happy childhood, and that the coming year will be different for them — peaceful and safe.
