Developing Own Capacity: CF SSS Conducts Training for Employees

The leadership of the Charity Foundation “Stabilization Support Services,” together with international partners, organized two 3-day trainings for humanitarian workers.

For three days, our team was immersed in an environment of learning, broadening knowledge, and acquiring new skills necessary for the Foundation’s activities. In particular, we discussed using a gender approach in our work and worked with the Sphere Handbook. This manual contains the international legal and ethical framework for humanitarian response, combined with practical guidelines for the implementation of humanitarian aid. We also learned from our partners and worked on our psychological support skills.

“This is the second workshop we have planned for the humanitarian sector. Our goal is to improve the team’s knowledge and skills. Among the team members are coordinators, engineers, and specialists in the field of water supply system restoration. They all have experience in different fields, and it is important to give them a thorough knowledge of the humanitarian sector,” says Anna Borysova, Director for Humanitarian Response, “We also spent a lot of time on the internal processes of the Foundation and, of course, on psychological support techniques. We all live under stress, and working with humanitarian aid also puts additional strain on us. That’s why we devoted one day to working with a psychologist.”

According to Anna, this is not the last training. At her colleagues’ request, another training is planned for the summer, although with a more narrow focus.

“For me personally, the most interesting was working with the Sphere Handbook. It is really a guidebook for our work. It’s good that we were able to hone our skills once again. I also appreciated the psychological component. These are the theories and practices that can be useful to us,” says Nazar Dorosh, who is responsible for reporting, monitoring, and cluster relations at the Foundation.

Such trainings are also an opportunity to gather all colleagues in one place, as CF SSS works from different parts of Ukraine and the world. These meetings help to unite the team and generate more ideas that can then be integrated into our work.

“Thank you for organizing a very useful training. In addition to discussing internal processes, the psychological part was interesting. Understanding how to deal with stress is very important. Since we help people who are permanently under stress, we need to be aware of how to communicate with them properly. We were taught how to be resourceful so that we would be able to help others. And, of course, there was a very informative and interesting part about the internal work of the Foundation. Because an organization is a living organism and you need to understand how it works,” Alina Koshelevych, a hotline operator, shared her impressions.

Our team continues to help people from the frontline areas who need it. Since 2016, CO “CF “Stabilization Support Services” has been working hard to help those affected by the hostilities.
