The Charity Foundation “Stabilization Support Services,” together with the international humanitarian organization CARE and with funding from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, has begun the distribution of humanitarian kits in Kherson as part of the project “Lifesaving and Gender-Sensitive Shelter and Protection Assistance for Conflict-Affected Populations in Dnipropetrovska Oblast in Eastern Ukraine As Well As Rapid Emergency Support to Affected Population in Khersonska Oblast in Southern Ukraine (Destruction of the Kakhovka Dam).”
Last week, the volunteers started distributing non-food kits to Kherson residents. These kits, valued at over UAH 10,000, include essential items like gas stoves, a variety of utensils, power banks, towels, and more.
Viktorya Drahoyeva, a resident of the city, and her large family are among the recipients of this assistance. Her household includes her husband, two daughters, sons-in-law, and a granddaughter. Their apartment building has sustained severe damage: the roof has been heavily damaged, many windows are shattered, and one apartment was hit by a Shakhed UAV. The building is now waterlogged, leading to moldy walls. In Viktoriya’s apartment, the ceiling has been damaged. Despite attempts to cover it with plastic, it continues to leak. The family frequently finds refuge at night with neighbors on the lower floors. Compounding their plight, the family has been left without essential household items.
— Before the war, we had planned renovations and moved our belongings to our dacha on the left bank to clear space. As a result, we’ve been left without blankets, dishes – essentially everything. Our home is now bare, and we fear the dacha might have been burned down. That’s why the contents of the humanitarian aid kit are so crucial for us. We often take shelter from the shelling in the basement, and we’ll use the stove from the kit to at least boil water,” Viktoriya explained.
Throughout the project, the Foundation aims to support 1,600 recipents, providing:
- 200 kits of non-food items,
- Bedding kits, including 400 mattresses, 400 blankets, and 800 pillows,
- 400 kits of thermal underwear for children aged 5 to 17, as well as adults,
- 215 hygiene kits.
Additionally, the CF SSS is spearheading several other projects in Kherson. These include assisting residents with housing reconstruction and establishing a public laundry facility.
