Energy-independent water purification system for Tomakivka

In the frontline regions of Ukraine, access to safe drinking water has become not just an important necessity but a daily challenge. Constant attacks on the energy infrastructure, emergency outages, and network instability create additional risks for facilities that provide essential services. The Tomakivka community in the Dnipropetrovsk region faces exactly these challenges.

To strengthen its energy resilience, a modern uninterruptible power supply system was installed in Tomakivka for the water purification system using reverse osmosis. The new system includes solar panels, an inverter, and high-capacity batteries — all of which create an independent, autonomous power source for the water treatment equipment.

Due to the full-scale war, the community has often been left without electricity, and along with it, the ability to reliably provide residents with drinking water. Therefore, the installation of an energy-independent system became a critically important solution. The upgraded system now ensures the supply of purified water not only to the residents of Tomakivka but also to two local schools. This means that hundreds of children, teachers, and community members can access safe water daily, even during prolonged power outages.

Our water supply restoration expert, Anton Malinin, explains how the new equipment works:
“This system guarantees uninterrupted operation of the reverse osmosis units. On sunny days, the panels generate electricity on their own. When there is no sun, the equipment charges from the grid. The batteries provide up to 8 hours of operation during a complete power outage. For the community, this means stable access to clean drinking water regardless of the conditions.”

Solar energy becomes not only an ecological solution but also a strategic one for the survival of communities in wartime conditions. Thanks to such projects, communities gain the ability to be less dependent on external risks and recover more quickly after crises.
