The team of the Charity Foundation “Stabilization Support Services” recently completed a HEFAT (Hostile Environment First Aid Training) course. Our employees practiced first aid protocols and learned how to operate in extreme conditions.
Our partners at CARE have been conducting these trainings since January 2024, offering them to other charitable organizations as well.
“The purpose of these trainings is to teach partners how to implement their programs safely. They are often required to travel to high-risk areas, liberated territories, and put themselves in harm’s way,” explains Inna Maniv, the Safety Development Coordinator at CARE.
Additionally, employees are required to periodically refresh their first aid knowledge to ensure they can take care of themselves and assist others.
“Unfortunately, people face many risks today, including traffic accidents. That’s why these trainings are so important. We try to identify staff who frequently go on business trips and offer these trainings for free, understanding how expensive they can be,” Inna added.
During the training, our team learned how to apply tourniquets, plan routes to potentially dangerous areas, identify mines, properly assess individuals for injuries, analyze and determine the type of wound, provide first aid, and develop action plans for emergency situations.
“I can confidently say this was the most comprehensive and useful training I’ve ever attended. I appreciated the delivery of the material, which was valuable both for first-timers and for those with prior experience. The instructors’ sense of humor made the material much easier to absorb. We understood that communication within the group is critical, as safety depends on coordinated teamwork. The most valuable segment for me was on heart attacks and strokes. Just days after returning from the training, I found myself using this knowledge,” shared Anna Vasylenko, the regional coordinator from Mykolaiv.
Anna added that she gained and practiced skills that could truly prove useful in real-life situations.
Our employees received certificates at the conclusion of the course. These trainings will enable us to respond faster and more effectively in challenging situations. We are grateful to the instructors for this invaluable knowledge.
