The effectiveness of social assistance delivery directly depends on the mobility of social workers. In remote communities, transportation becomes the crucial factor determining whether a person receives help on time. Contributing to the solution of this problem, the Charity Foundation “Stabilization Support Services” has been donating bicycles to social protection institutions in remote communities for the third consecutive year. In this way, we aim to eliminate logistical barriers and ensure stable and timely access to vital services for the most vulnerable segments of the population.
The first institution to receive vehicles this year was the Kotelevskyi Territorial Center for Social Services (Poltavska Oblast). We provided the Center with three electric bicycles and two tricycles, equipped with baskets for the convenient transportation of humanitarian aid, food, and medical supplies.
“The Kotelevskyi Territorial Center cares for 249 community residents who require constant outside assistance. They are helped by 20 social workers who handle daily tasks: buying groceries, paying utility bills, and cleaning. The donated vehicles will be real helpers for them, thanks to which they will be able to more promptly provide necessary services to older people, people with disabilities, and IDPs living in the community,” noted Oksana Luhova, the project’s regional coordinator in Poltavska Oblast.
CF SSS has already delivered 35 bicycles and tricycles to communities, but our goal is much more ambitious. In total, we will provide 202 vehicles for the needs of social workers in different parts of Ukraine.
We will continue to help improve the social protection system in target communities. We are implementing these initiatives through the Support to the Capacity of Government Institutions and Local Communities To Strengthen Social Protection Systems in Ukraine project, which is carried out with the support of UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency in Ukraine.
