As part of the “Humanitarian Aid for Besieged Cities and Displaced Persons Hosted Locations in Ukraine” project, the initial phase of residential restorations, wrecked by Russian aggression, has been concluded.
Liudmyla (shown in the photo) stands as one of the individuals we’ve managed to assist in refurbishing her wrecked home in Zaporizhzhia: Her apartment was damaged in a missile attack on the 9th of October. Three windows and a balcony entrance in Liudmyla’s residence have already been replaced through our project.
– “Close to 2 a.m., I was jolted awake by four explosions, and the fifth missile hit an adjacent apartment building,” Liudmyla recounts. “I turned on the light only to realize that the sole surviving windows in my apartment were the ones left open. The rest of the glass had shattered, with the doors sustaining damage as well. Thankfully, we survived unscathed.”
Presently, the Foundation’s team has successfully renovated 41 damaged homes, with numerous private residences and apartments still under reconstruction. In total, we aim to complete 75 restorations in Zaporizka Oblast and a further 225 in Mykolaivska Oblast as part of the ongoing project.
– “Most of the damage encountered by our project engineers has been to the windows,” remarks Dmytro Khrypko, the regional engineer for the Charity Foundation Stabilization Support Services in Zaporizka Oblast. “They are typically either completely shattered or have sustained severe frame damage preventing us from merely replacing the glass. Consequently, we tend to fully replace the windows in most cases.”
The project “Humanitarian Assistance to Besieged Cities and IDP-Hosting Locations Inside Ukraine” is implemented by the Charity Foundation Stabilization Support Services with the support of the humanitarian organization CARE.Ukraine.
