Flashlights, Generator, and Community Support: How Fuel Assistance Registration Took Place in Khukhra

In the village of Khukhra, Chernechchynska community, Sumy region, registrations were held for cash assistance to purchase solid fuel for locals. For many families, this support is especially important ahead of winter, as residents in frontline communities face daily challenges caused by the war.

During the registration process, the village experienced a power outage, so the team worked in non-standard conditions — using flashlights on mobile phones. Despite these difficulties, the project team successfully registered all residents who came for assistance. The registration continued until every applicant had the opportunity to submit their application.

According to Alіona Kolomiiets, a project registrar in the Sumy region, situations like this have become part of daily work in frontline communities:

“Honestly, this has become almost a normal way of working for us. A phone flashlight is also a working tool. The main thing is that people were able to register and receive support. In our reality, it’s not about ‘perfect conditions,’ but about just doing our job.”

Special thanks go to the Khukhra Village School, which supported the registration process. Thanks to the school providing a working generator, residents were able to keep warm, charge their phones, and complete registration more comfortably.

In frontline communities, it is precisely this kind of cooperation between residents, local institutions, and the project team that ensures that aid reaches those who need it most, even under difficult circumstances.

The project is funded by the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund and implemented by Stabilization Support Services (SSS) in cooperation with the Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH).
