Handing over 12 bicycles to three communities in Ternopil region

We continue to provide technical support to social protection institutions. In November, we handed over new bicycles to the social service centres of the Kremenets, Pidvolochysk and Berezhany communities: each institution received two mechanical and two electric bicycles.

Such an initiative is extremely important in the context of a full-scale war. From now on, social workers will be able to deliver food, medicines and other necessary items to people with limited mobility much faster and more comfortably.

We share the feedback from the communities that received the assistance.

“Due to the ongoing full-scale war, it is necessary to ensure a decent life for the internally displaced people by meeting their basic and vital needs. As of today, 386 internally displaced people live on the territory of the Pidvolochysk community. The Social Service Centre of the Pidvolochysk village council received 4 bicycles. On behalf of the community leadership, the institution’s staff and social workers, we would like to express our gratitude for the assistance received, which will facilitate our work, increase productivity and improve the quality of our services,” says Serhii Potomskyi, director of the Municipal Institution “Social Service Centre” of the Pidvolochysk Village Council.

As more than 2,500 internally displaced people are registered in Kremenets territorial community, tricycles with spacious baskets for transporting necessary items were provided to the Community Social Service Centre to facilitate the work of the community’s employees. They include two mechanical bikes and two electric bicycles. They will allow social workers to quickly deliver assistance to those who need it – both local residents and internally displaced people living in the community and using the Centre’s services,” says Mykola Matviiuk, Deputy Mayor for the activities of the council’s executive bodies, Chairman of the IDP Coordination Council at the Executive Committee of Kremenets City Council.

The main purpose of this assistance is to bring social services closer to internally displaced people and local residents. The bicycles will help social workers deliver assistance to those in need faster and easier. The social service centres that have received the vehicles provide many different services, including in-kind assistance. Employees deliver food, hygiene products and medicines to residents of remote communities. Previously, all this was often transported manually or on ordinary bicycles, so such assistance is extremely important for the effective work of social services,” adds Yana Shkuratova, Regional Project Coordinator in Ternopil region.

We purchase and deliver bicycles for social workers as part of the project “Supporting the Capacity of the Social Protection System to Register Internally Displaced People”, implemented with the support of the United Nations Refugee Agency in Ukraine (UNHCR).
