The team of the Provision of Lifesaving Winterization, NFI, and Shelter Support to Conflict Affected Populations in Ukraine project has completed the renovation of a vaccination room at one of the outpatient clinics of the Zaporizhzhia Primary Healthcare Center No. 2. We have renovated the vaccination room of this medical facility.
“Even before the start of the full-scale war, this room was in dire need of a comprehensive renovation. Located on the ground floor, its windows let in the cold. According to regulations, the temperature in a vaccination room must be maintained between 20–25 degrees Celsius, but ours was lower. This made it uncomfortable for both doctors and children during consultations,” recalls Halyna Opashnianska, the head of the outpatient clinic.
The vaccination room sustained significant damage during one of the attacks on the city. Tiles fell off the walls, cracks appeared, and both windows were shattered. According to Halyna, despite these damages, the clinic had to remain operational, as it provides daily medical and preventive services to children (from birth to adulthood).
“Our outpatient clinic offers all types of medical care, including vaccinations, for approximately 8,000 children. On average, we see 150 young patients daily. Due to the hostilities, the patient flow fluctuates, but the relevance of our services doesn’t diminish since internally displaced persons are arriving in Zaporizhzhia,” says Halyna Opashnianska.
She is delighted that the vaccination room is now warm, bright, and comfortable after the renovation. Currently, the clinic is actively vaccinating children, as there has been an increase in diseases preventable through immunization.
