The work on a new project to support the system of social protection of the population is in full swing. We are implementing it together with the UN Refugee Agency in Ukraine to speed up the registration of IDPs in various regions.
This is what our team has accomplished for this moment:
- We have conducted a detailed assessment of the needs of each department to expand the technical capabilities of IDP registration. Currently, we possess detailed information on each community participating in the project, and we are preparing technical assistance kits for them.
- We analyze the procedure for registering IDPs in selected communities. Over the next four months, the regional teams will conduct workshops on the registration and protection of IDPs for local institutions. The first events on the topic “Appointment of Living Allowance for IDPs” will take place already this week.
- We provide individual consultations regarding the registration process, social services and protection of the rights of IDPs. To have more information, we have developed a convenient form of a request for assistance. Our regional teams collect and analyze all the applications we receive.
Here’s what Karen Whiting, Deputy Head of UNHCR Office, says about the project: “Considering all the challenges Ukraine has faced, UNHCR Ukraine seeks to strengthen the technical capacity of Ukraine’s social protection system to register the internally displaced persons. It is important that together with our partners we do not limit ourselves to providing technical assistance. We believe that training for social protection workers and an information campaign among the internally displaced persons will lead to increased protection of displaced persons, help identify their needs and improve access to assistance.”
