Our Support for IDPs and the Social Protection System in March: 10 Key Achievements

Every day, our team works to strengthen Ukraine’s social protection system. We provide legal aid, support IDP Councils, and collaborate with communities and government agencies to ensure that every person affected by the war feels supported and has access to essential social services.

Here are the key achievements of our team across Ukraine in March, made possible with the support of UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency in Ukraine. This is just a glimpse of our daily work to help people across the country.

1️⃣ Volynska Oblast: We explained the procedure for registering for temporary housing to IDPs and helped a woman submit her application, giving her a better understanding of the process and her rights.

2️⃣ Dnipropetrovska Oblast: We provided methodological support to a new employee at the Social Services Center in the Solonianska community on registering individuals for at-home care. We also supported the Lychkivska community’s IDP Council in advocating for free school meals for IDP children.

3️⃣ Donetska Oblast: We offered expert consultations to employees of the Dobropillia Department of Social Protection, who were affected by shelling, on resolving housing issues and referred them to partner organizations for financial aid.

4️⃣ Zaporizka Oblast: We expanded our partnerships by establishing cooperation with the Ternuvate Village Council. We also provided legal aid to IDPs, clarifying the process for compensation for destroyed property and advising on inheritance matters.

5️⃣ Ivano-Frankivska Oblast: We supported an open meeting of the regional IDP Council, ran an information campaign on compensation for destroyed housing, and began work on creating a social passport for the Zabolotivska community.

6️⃣ Kyivska Oblast: We supported a meeting of the Dymerska community’s IDP Council and helped its head join local working groups. We also initiated a working group in the Makarivska community to develop regulations for registering IDPs in need of temporary housing.

7️⃣ Lvivska Oblast: We provided expert advice to a specialist at the Social Services Center on the procedures for a low-income IDP family to maintain their living assistance and social benefits.

8️⃣ Rivnenska Oblast: We assisted a displaced man, Serhiy H., with inheritance matters following his wife’s death, explaining the procedure and helping him communicate with a notary to obtain his certificate of inheritance.

9️⃣ Ternopilska Oblast: Thanks to our prior work in creating and updating the community’s social passport and needs assessment, the Trybukhivska community successfully secured a grant to establish a Resilience Center.

🔟Khersonska Oblast: We provided legal guidance to a woman displaced from the temporarily occupied territories on the process and documents needed to establish the fact of her mother’s death, enabling her to obtain the death certificate.

We will continue to help improve the social protection system in target communities. We implement these initiatives through the Support to the Capacity of Government Institutions and Local Communities to Strengthen Social Protection Systems in Ukraine project, implemented with the support of UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency in Ukraine.
