Our Support of the Social Protection System in September

For the third consecutive year, we continue to support the social protection system, which is under severe strain due to the full-scale war. Our regional project teams are working across the country to stabilize the operations of social protection institutions and support the integration of internally displaced persons into new communities, including through the establishment of IDP Councils.

In September, within the project framework, we conducted 89 activities, ranging from meetings with the leadership of social protection institutions and providing them with office equipment to strategic sessions for IDP Councils and legal consultations.

Here are the key results of our work in this area.

In September, we held:

  • 4 coordination meetings with the leadership of social protection institutions;
  • 7 seminars for social protection institutions (covering topics like personal data protection, restoration of lost documents, and state financial guarantees for medical care);
  • 11 burnout prevention training sessions for social protection workers;
  • 7 educational and integration events for IDPs (covering the restoration of documents, compensation for damaged/destroyed housing, and labor relations during martial law);
  • 11 report presentations following monitoring of local policies and programs related to social protection, including for IDPs;
  • 9 capacity-building activities and 8 strategic sessions for IDP Councils;
  • 12 consultations with communities that required assistance in implementing social protection development plans;
  • 18 coordination meetings with partners;
  • 2,233 legal consultations.

We also provided the following to social protection institutions:

  • 120 ink cartridges for multifunctional printing and scanning devices across 10 oblasts;
  • 1 uninterruptible power supply and 4 SSD drives;
  • 375 packs of A4 paper.

In addition, we organized two major forums. The Central Ukrainian IDP Councils Forum, held in Vinnytsia, served as a platform for discussing the involvement of IDPs in community life and the decision-making processes that affect them. The Social Sphere During Wartime: Challenges and Prospects, Best Practices for Communities of Ternopilska Oblast forum brought together representatives of the government, local authorities, civil society, and social institutions to exchange experiences and ideas, and provided an opportunity to develop joint strategies.We will continue to support the improvement of the social protection system in target communities. These initiatives are implemented under the Supporting the Capacity of the Social Protection System to Register Internally Displaced Persons project, funded by the UN Refugee Agency in Ukraine.
