In February, the Foundation will open six social laundries with washing machines and dryers as part of the Rapid Emergency Support to Affected Population in Khersonska and Mykolaivska Regions in Southern Ukraine, Kherson Flood Response project.
“Most of us take the opportunity to wash our clothes for granted. However, people who lost their homes and property after the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant destruction are denied this opportunity. The situation is further complicated by the current water problem in the flooded areas. Thousands of people cannot simply wash their clothes,” says project manager Yuliya Suchok.
The Foundation has already signed cooperation agreements with institutions hosting the social laundries. We are also completing repairs to the premises and have already delivered washing machines and dryers.
One of the laundries in Kherson will be set up for residents of the Ostriv neighborhood, which was flooded after the Kakhovka dam was destroyed. The houses here were completely destroyed, and people have nowhere to return to, so some are now living in a specially designated temporary residence. The laundry is intended for those who live there.
We are opening three more social laundries in Inhulets, Lymanets, and Fedorivka villages in the Daryivska community of Khersonska Oblast. These villages were under occupation, then suffered from the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, and are now under constant Russian shelling. We are opening small social laundries there, as the villages are facing problems with water and electricity supply.
In Mykolaiv, we are preparing to open two laundries at territorial centers that provide assistance to people in difficult life situations, including IDPs, people with limited mobility, and single people, as well as large families.
The Rapid Emergency Support to Affected Population in Khersonska and Mykolaivska Regions in Southern Ukraine, Kherson Flood Response project is being implemented by the Charity Foundation “Stabilization Support Services” with the support of the international humanitarian organization CARE. The project has previously distributed folding beds, hygiene kits, and non-food items.
