On November 15-16, our regional team in Sumska Oblast conducted a strategic planning session at the Konotop Local Center for Free Secondary Legal Aid, specifically for the IDP Council of the Konotop City Council.

In collaboration with strategic planning expert Olha Palkova-Svirchevska, the attendees engaged in detailed discussions about the vision, mission, and core values of the IDP Council of the Konotop City Council. They identified both strategic and operational objectives for the coming months and exchanged insights on successful initiatives undertaken by IDP Councils in other oblasts.

Liudmyla Rudenko, the Regional Coordinator in Sumska Oblast, emphasized the significance of such strategic sessions for IDP Councils. She noted, “Strategizing for IDP Councils is crucial in establishing an effective advisory body dedicated to facilitating IDPs’ integration into communities and advocating for their rights and interests. For many attendees, this session was both novel and beneficial, particularly for IDP Council members appointed by local authorities who lacked prior experience in formulating strategic work plans. We extend our gratitude to UNHCR for enabling us to enhance the capabilities of the IDP Council under ther Konotop City Council.”

The session culminated in the creation of a comprehensive strategic plan for the activities of the IDP Council of the Konotop City Council.

Special thanks are extended to the Konotop Local Center for Free Secondary Legal Aid for their invaluable support in organizing and hosting this event, including providing organizational, legal, and technical assistance.

These strategic sessions for IDP Councils are part of the “Supporting the Capacity of the Social Protection System to Register Internally Displaced Persons” project, implemented by the CF SSS with financial support from the UN Refugee Agency in Ukraine.
