Thanks to the Lifesaving Shelter, MPCA, SRH, and Protection Assistance for Conflict-Affected Communities in Rural Hromadas in Mykolaivska and Khersonska Oblasts project, we have the opportunity to help hundreds of families in difficult circumstances. As part of this project, our team is carrying out light repairs on homes damaged by the war to prepare Kherson residents for the winter.

We are hurrying to repair the kitchen window for Halyna from Kherson (name changed for safety reasons). We have already taken measurements, are preparing the frame, and will soon begin the installation. Afterward, we will plaster and paint the window jambs. This window has been destroyed for the second time—this time after three rockets landed in the courtyard among apartment buildings. Fortunately, no one in the family was harmed during the shelling. Currently, 72-year-old Halyna is raising her 13-year-old grandson, who lost his older brother and then his mother due to the war.

“My husband and I raised two daughters, and then I raised three grandchildren on my own. But now the war has left just my grandson and me, and I must live on until he grows up. I understand this and very much hope for it,” she says. “I really want to prepare our apartment for the cold. I replaced the first window with the help of a neighbor, but I can’t manage the second one on my own, so I am really counting on your Foundation’s support.”

Our team will strive to help the family before the cold weather sets in. This has been made possible through the Lifesaving Shelter, MPCA, SRH, and Protection Assistance for Conflict-Affected Communities in Rural Hromadas in Mykolaivska and Khersonska Oblasts project implemented by the CO CF SSS in collaboration with the international humanitarian organization CARE, with the support of the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund.
