“This Project Helped Bring Warmth Back to People’s Homes” — Results of Our Work in Zaporizhzhia and Kryvyi Rih

The Humanitarian Assistance to Besieged Cities and IDP-Hosting Locations Inside Ukraine project was implemented from March 2024 to February 2025. Its goal was to provide assistance to those affected by the war in Zaporizka Oblast, Kryvyi Rih, and the Pokrovska hromada in Dnipropetrovska Oblast.

Our Achievements

  • Light Housing Repairs: 412 homes damaged by shelling were repaired.
  • Distribution of Winterization Humanitarian Kits: 2,200 NFI kits, including warm blankets, power banks, and other essentials, were distributed, offering crucial support to vulnerable populations during the cold months.
  • Beneficiary Reach: The project supported several thousand people, including individuals with disabilities, large families, the elderly, and internally displaced persons.

Oksana Levada, Regional Project Coordinator in Zaporizka Oblast:

“Zaporizka Oblast has endured shelling for a long time. Unfortunately, the shelling continues to this day. Many residents have been left without windows, doors, and, in some cases, even a roof over their heads. This project helped bring warmth back to people’s homes by replacing damaged windows and doors. Zaporizhzhia continues to receive IDPs from frontline areas. Humanitarian kits have become an invaluable resource for residents of temporary housing facilities for IDPs who lack the means to acquire basic necessities. We can see how this support helps people rebuild their lives, starting almost from scratch.”

Nadiya Aleksandrova, Regional Project Coordinator in Kryvyi Rih:

The city faces enemy shelling almost weekly. Hundreds of vulnerable individuals are in need of housing repairs. The project enabled these populations to winter in warm, bright, and tidy homes. Winter humanitarian kits provided timely support to residents of the Pokrovska hromada, where most homes lack centralized heating. For these residents, power outages mean not just a loss of light but also of heat. During the project implementation period, we assisted hundreds of families. Replacing windows and doors isn’t just about comfort — it’s about the warmth that is crucial during the winter months. We are grateful for this partnership, which made a significant contribution to supporting our communities.”
