Applying for social benefits, obtaining IDP certificates, finding temporary shelter — these are issues that hundreds of people bring to local authorities every day. Behind each request is a personal story, and ensuring that assistance is provided quickly and effectively requires a strong understanding of Ukrainian legislation. That is why, in Okhtyrka, Sumy region, the legal experts of our project “Improving Access to Legal Protection, Strengthening the Role of Communities and IDP Councils, and Promoting Decent Living Conditions for Conflict-Affected Populations” conducted a practical training for representatives of local self-government bodies.

Together with the participants, we reviewed the latest legislative changes concerning the protection of the rights of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and conflict-affected populations, explored solutions to complex real-life situations and practical cases faced daily by local government officials, and examined legal nuances in detail to ensure the correct and effective application of legal provisions.

Such events help communities respond more efficiently to challenges related to supporting IDPs and conflict-affected populations while improving the quality of services and consultations provided to people in need.
Community representatives are often the first people individuals turn to for help. We are committed to ensuring that they have access to up-to-date knowledge and practical tools to protect the rights of every person who needs support.
The event was made possible through the project “Improving Access to Legal Protection and Strengthening the Role of Communities and IDP Councils in Supporting Affected Populations in Sumy Region”, implemented by the Charitable Organization “Stabilization Support Services” together with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in Ukraine, with support from Norway.
