Within the framework of the United Voices in Action project, we hold webinars for employees of the Social Protection departments on various legal nuances that may be a matter of concern for the displaced persons. Unfortunately, the legal aspects of establishing the fact of death are one of the painful but important issues that we have dedicated an online event to.
The participants of the webinar included employees of the Social Protection departments, Centers for Provision of Administrative Services, and local self-government bodies. During two days, the largest number of participants who joined the event was from the Lviv and Cherkasy regions.
Let’s talk a bit about what was discussed.
According to the usual procedure, death is registered by the Civil Status Acts Registration bodies on the basis of a document from a medical institution. However, situations occur when such document is absent or is drafted with errors. In this case, what should relatives of the deceased do, how can they register his death?
This issue is also relevant in case of death in the occupied territories. There are separate court procedures for this: establishing the fact of death and declaring a person dead.
This is exactly what was discussed during the webinar. The participants familiarized themselves with the order and legal consequences of such procedures. They also learned to distinguish between establishing the fact of death and declaring a person dead and understood in which cases one or another procedure should be used.
The webinar also included a practical part — an analysis of four cases. The Social Protection representatives consolidated the theoretical part and learned to apply it in simulated situations. We are already preparing an infographic based on this webinar.
