We have started working on a new advocacy project aimed at protecting the housing rights of displaced persons

Our Foundation has started working on a new advocacy project implemented together with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC). Its goal is to develop long-term solutions to ensure the IDPs housing rights. It will be implemented in four regions of Ukraine — Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Kryvyi Rih, and Kyiv — through cooperation with local IDP Councils.

“Our organization has been helping to create IDP Councils since 2019. With the support of CF “Stabilization Support Services”, consultation and advisory bodies were established at local authorities, helping to make systemic decisions to protect the rights of IDPs”, explains Anastasiia Perepelitsia, our regional coordinator in Zaporizka oblast. “For example, during a year and a half of its work, the IDP Council under Zaporizhia City Mayor contributed to introducing amendments to three local programs, which now take into account the IDPs’ interests, and initiated the creation of a temporary housing fund. The work of such consultative and advisory bodies demonstrates that IDPs are not exclusively an object of assistance, but are a real resource for communities.”

In the near future, within the framework of the new project, trainings will be held for representatives of IDP Councils, activists and partners on housing property rights, abandoned property management and housing programs budgeting. The ultimate goal of the project is to create recommendations for government representatives that will help adjust housing programs for IDPs in the regions.
