Spotlight on vital and current initiatives in the Mykolaivska Oblast!
Within the Mykolaivska Oblast, the Snihurivska community bore the brunt of the flooding that followed the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant. This disaster flooded 13 settlements, including the city of Snihurivka.
“The most pressing issue we faced was Snihurivka’s impending lack of centralized water supply for some time. The water supply was cut off in approximately 120 multi-story buildings in Snihurivka. We managed to organize water delivery and set up five distribution points throughout the city. Despite this, the physical burden of transporting water to their homes proved challenging for the residents, particularly for the elderly,” shares Anna Vasylenko, the regional coordinator of the Charity Foundation Stabilization Support Services in Mykolaivska Oblast.
Given the significant impact on the daily lives of many community members, we felt compelled to address this humanitarian crisis. The Charity Foundation Stabilization Support Services, in collaboration with our partners, Choose Love, undertook the implementation of a significant initiative — a mobile laundry service that is free of charge for the residents, internally displaced persons, and guests of Snihurivka!
As part of this initiative, we procured 10 new washing machines, five pumps, and three water storage tanks. The local utilities were responsible for the installation and connection of the equipment.
The laundry facility commenced operation on June 15. Over the initial three days, 520 local families made use of the service, confirming the value of our humanitarian partnerships.
We are optimistic that this initiative will significantly ease the daily challenges faced by the city’s residents and contribute to creating a more comfortable environment for all those impacted by the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP.
