Last week, the Charity Foundation “Stabilization Support Services” team inspected the homes of Kherson residents who registered to participate in a project for the restoration of housing. We planned to assist with the repairs of those houses and apartments that suffered minor damage due to the war, such as damaged roofs, doors, or windows.

Damages were analyzed, and measurements were taken in the first 22 households. In total, assistance is planned for 224 households. It was quite challenging for our colleagues to work, given the ongoing shelling of the city by the Russians.

Nadiya Bochkova’s house also suffered from enemy attacks. She did not leave Kherson during the entire war and notes that she is no longer as frightened by the constant sounds of shelling. She explains how she knows when to seek shelter quickly and when the shelling is “not heading her way.” With the windows blown out and the roof destroyed, Nadiya anxiously awaits the period of heavy frosts.

“The first window was blown out last year, but this September, a strike was very close, and it damaged my roof and other windows. Now they are boarded up with hardboard, so of course, the heat doesn’t stay in the house. But for now, we are saved by a warm winter; there are no frosts, so the temperature is still bearable,” shared Nadiya.

The repairs are being carried out within the project Lifesaving Shelter, MPCA, SRH, and Protection Assistance for Conflict-Affected Communities in Rural Hromadas in Mykolaivska and Khersonska Oblasts implemented by the CO CF SSS and Kherson NGO “Successful Woman”, in collaboration with the international humanitarian organization CARE, with the support of the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund.
