The team of the project “Strengthening resilience and protecting conflict-affected individuals, communities, and systems in Central and Eastern Ukraine” spent this autumn in constant work. Due to daily shelling, the number of damaged houses continues to grow, and with it the need for warm and safe housing.
Our specialists traveled to affected communities every day, installing windows and doors and helping families regain at least a small part of the comfort that the war had taken from them.
Today, we would like to share a few stories of our fellow Ukrainians.
Izium, Kharkiv region.
Olena and her two children spent their nights in a basement when the city was hit by massive shelling. After one of the strikes, the family returned home to find their windows blown out. For months, they lived with plywood instead of glass.
“My city is a wound that will ache for a long time. When new windows were installed for us, I couldn’t believe it was free of charge. You have returned not only our home but also our faith in normal life,” Olena says.

Tetiana Volodymyrivna, a resident of a private house, survived a rocket strike while hiding in her basement. The blast wave blew out all four windows and even the front door. Cold air, dust, and leaves were constantly getting inside, while temporary fixes made from blankets and plastic sheeting held for only a few days and provided no real protection from the weather.
After new windows and a front door were installed, her house once again became livable.
“Now I can live in my home normally again. I truly appreciate your help,” Tetiana shares.
There are hundreds of such stories. And each one is about strength, resilience, and the determination not to give up.
We continue to work every day so that people can remain in their homes, even in the most difficult circumstances.
The Strengthening resilience and protection of conflict-affected individuals, communities, and systems in Central and Eastern Ukraine project is implemented by the Charity Foundation “Stabilization Support Services” in cooperation with the international humanitarian organization CARE and with the support of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
