Cooperation for Safety: How Humanitarian Organizations and Local Authorities Communicate and Coordinate

Collaboration between humanitarian organizations and local authorities is crucial during times of war, including in Ukraine. This cooperation involves access to frontline areas and ensuring the safety of volunteers, charitable foundations, and aid recipients.

To ensure safe access to communities in need, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) holds monthly meetings with representatives of local authorities and non-governmental organizations operating in specific regions. Our team from the Charity Foundation “Stabilization Support Services” attends these meetings.

During these gatherings, plans for humanitarian missions, joint activities, and ways to improve safe access to communities are discussed.

This cooperation helps ensure that humanitarian aid is delivered to those in need promptly and without risk to the lives of volunteers and civilians.

“It is important to cooperate so that local authorities are aware of our presence and understand what we are doing,” explains Hlib Nehriyenko, security officer at the Foundation. “This helps us to deliver humanitarian aid to civilians safely and on time, while at the same time, people can receive it in safe and suitable conditions.”

Our team is helping residents of Zaporizka and Khersonska oblasts within the framework of the Lifesaving Response to Protection Risks and Humanitarian Needs of Conflict-Affected Population in South and South-East of Ukraine project.

This project is being implemented by the CO CF SSS together with the international organization CARE with the financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
