This is not Ms. Rosa’s first visit to the social workshop in Mykolaiv. Today, despite the heat outside, she came to the hub with one goal in mind – to give new life to her favorite suit, which she sewed herself many years ago.
“I really love coming to the workshop. A few weeks ago, I had my pants hemmed here, then I sewed bedding for my children. They moved to another apartment, and I had to help them by adjusting the bedding to fit. Today I came to update my suit. It is so light, beautiful, my favorite, but the threads are all ruined, but that’s not a problem, you have such machines that I can quickly repair it,” – Ms. Rosa shares her plans.
The woman moved to Mykolaiv from Kherson more than two years ago. She recalls how, as soon as it was liberated, heavy shelling began, so they packed their belongings and set off. Her daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren left with her. Now they all live together. Everything was left behind in her hometown — her home, her belongings, memories of her former life, and Ms. Rosa’s most cherished possession — her old sewing machine. She had sewn on it practically her entire life.
“I am an economist by education, but sewing is my joy. For as long as I can remember, I have always loved sewing, embroidering, and knitting. No one taught me how to use a sewing machine. My mother was a good seamstress, and I would always stand and watch her work. That’s how I learned. Suits, pants, dresses, bedding, home decor — I can sew anything. The main thing is to have the tools. You have very nice machines here, new ones, and I’m even afraid to approach them sometimes. But at the HUB, they always help, give advice, and don’t leave you alone. So, I’ve already learned everything, and most importantly, I’ve finally returned to my favorite pastime,” – Ms. Roza says proudly.
The sewing department at the social HUB has a separate room. It is equipped with sewing machines (domestic and professional), a cutting table, an overlock machine, and all the necessary equipment and materials for sewing and repairing textiles. Here, you can not only repair old clothes, but also sew clothes or home textiles, update children’s toys or accessories, and alter old things into new ones.
In addition, at the Social Hub, you can repair your household appliances or equipment yourself, rent tools, or call a repairman for minor repairs at home.
Services at the Hub are FREE and available to everyone.
We are always waiting for you at the following address: 13/9 Mariupolska Street, Mykolaiv.
