The Foundation has been implementing reconstruction projects since 2023. The first of them focused on repairs of private households and temporary housing in Mykolaivska, Zaporizka, Kharkivska, and Dnipropetrovska oblasts. However, we are aware that the number of families in need is much higher. That is why, since the beginning of 2024, we have also been operating in Khersonska Oblast.
For example, we plan to carry out more than 400 repairs there over the course of the year. Our plans were made possible, among other things, thanks to the Addressing the Immediate Multi-Sectoral Humanitarian Needs of IDPs and Conflict-Affected Populations Inside Ukraine project. This project will allow us to provide assistance to the residents of Khersonska and Mykolaivska oblasts.
According to the project coordinator Yuliya Suchok, the Foundation’s team’s priority is to prepare the houses for safe and comfortable living, especially during the winter. Therefore, first of all, the windows and front doors need to be replaced and the roofs repaired to make the interior warm and dry. This will stop the houses from deteriorating further.
“It is important that people feel good in their homes. Often, after a shelling, the owners of damaged houses receive only primary assistance (windows are boarded up and the roof is covered with plastic) and live like this for six months because they cannot repair everything on their own,” says project coordinator Yuliya Suchok. “But is it possible to live with dignity without sunlight in the house? We do not think so. Film is an unreliable and short-term solution. Moisture gets under it, and the house gets damaged beyond repair. Therefore, it is crucial not to wait and replace the damaged parts as soon as possible.”
The assistance is provided within the framework of the Providing Multi-Sectoral Humanitarian Assistance to Conflict-Affected Populations in Ukraine project, implemented by the CF SSS together with the humanitarian organization CARE Ukraine and the Response Consortium. The program is funded by the USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA).
