New opportunities for communities: Summarizing the results of a two-day online grantwriting training

The two-day online training “Grantwriting and Community Recovery: From Idea to Sustainable Implementation” has concluded, bringing together representatives of communities from the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv regions. Over the course of two days, participants not only gained new knowledge but also actively worked on their own ideas, turning them into concrete project concepts.

The training was highly practice-oriented: participants explored, step by step, the logic of developing grant proposals — from identifying a problem to defining results and impact. Special attention was paid to project structure, aligning ideas with local strategic development plans, and formulating clear and achievable objectives.

A separate session focused on donor requirements. Participants analyzed common mistakes in applications and received practical recommendations on how to avoid them. This helped them better understand donor expectations and increased their chances of successfully securing funding.

An important part of the training was dedicated to funding opportunities within the project “Strengthening the Resilience and Protection of Conflict-Affected Individuals, Communities, and Systems in Central and Eastern Ukraine.” Participants reviewed the conditions of the small grants competition in detail and began developing project ideas that could receive funding ranging from UAH 650,000 to UAH 1,000,000.

Despite being held online, the training maintained a dynamic and supportive atmosphere. Participants активно engaged in practical exercises, worked on their ideas, and provided feedback throughout the sessions. Many noted that the training helped them better structure their knowledge and increased their confidence in preparing grant applications.

The knowledge gained during the training is already being transformed into concrete project ideas that can become an important step toward the recovery and development of communities.

The Strengthening resilience and protection of conflict-affected individuals, communities, and systems in Central and Eastern Ukraine project is implemented by the Charity Foundation “Stabilization Support Services” in cooperation with the international humanitarian organization CARE and with the support of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
