Residents of private homes in three regions of Ukraine will soon receive fuel briquettes. Our Foundation provides this assistance as part of the Lifesaving: Protection, Shelter, and WASH for War-Affected Regions project. It is intended for residents of:
- Sumska, Putyvlska, and Chernechchynska communities (Sumska Oblast)
- Horokhivska and Pryvilnianska communities (Mykolaivska Oblast)
- Komyshuvaska and Kushuhumska communities (Zaporizka Oblast)
Four hundred families in each of these regions will receive 2 tons of solid fuel each.
The first stage of distributing the briquette kits is registration.
“Official online platforms of local authorities have already published application forms for those in need of assistance. Next, all registered applicants will receive an SMS confirmation of their registration along with the designated date and time for collecting the solid fuel,” explains Oksana Levada, Foundation’s regional coordinator in Zaporizka Oblast.
Even though two months of winter have already passed, this aid remains highly relevant, notes project manager Khrystyna Oliynyk. She adds that for many people, briquettes are the only available source of energy, allowing them to cook food and keep warm.
“Even in areas where natural gas or coal is still supplied, the vast majority of residents simply cannot afford to pay for it. Residents of frontline communities frequently face power outages due to constant shelling. All of this adds to the hardships of daily life, especially in winter. Our team will work to ensure that families have warmth in their homes and can be confident that they won’t be left without support in difficult times,” emphasizes Khrystyna Oliynyk.
The briquette kits will be distributed among those most in need based on vulnerability assessment criteria. The distribution will take place in two stages: in February, 2,400 tons will be allocated across the three target regions, and at the beginning of autumn, the Foundation’s team plans to deliver another batch of solid fuel to the communities.
The Lifesaving: Protection, Shelter, and WASH for War-Affected Regions project is implemented by the Charity Foundation “Stabilization Support Services” in partnership with Malteser International, with the support of Aktion Deutschland Hilft.
