“Seek Challenges that Inspire”: Training on Combating Professional Burnout in Chernivtsi Region

“Set clear boundaries between work and personal life, learn to rest and recharge” is one of psychologist Oksana Kolesnyk’s simple but effective pieces of advice. In May, we invited her to conduct a training session on combating professional burnout for employees of social protection institutions in Chernivetska Oblast and the Department of Social Protection of the Chernivetska Oblast Military Administration.

Over the course of two days, the coach thoroughly discussed emotional burnout syndrome, its causes, symptoms, consequences, and prevention through resilience techniques. Participants engaged in numerous exercises, practicing modern methods of emotional stabilization, self-regulation, self-help, and art therapy. The goal of these tasks was to analyze their experiences, particularly their feelings about work.

How else can one combat professional burnout?

Here is what Oksana Kolesnyk recommends:

  • Develop emotional resilience and enhance stress management skills (meditation, physical exercise, hobbies).
  • Build supportive relationships at work and foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Regularly assess workloads, set clear priorities, and delegate tasks.
  • Pursue professional development, acquire new skills, and seek inspiring challenges.
  • Pay attention to both physical and mental health, and maintain close relationships with family.
  • Be open to feedback from colleagues and management, discuss issues, and seek solutions.

Given the current workload social protection professionals face, we will continue to support communities in this area. We strive to provide help not only through targeted efforts but also by providing essential knowledge to develop skills that contribute to psychological well-being.

We conduct educational activities within the framework of the Supporting the Capacity of the Social Protection System to Register Internally Displaced Persons project funded by the United Nations Refugee Agency in Ukraine.
