To Help and Support: How Volunteers Support Kherson Residents

Volunteer organizations help the Foundation provide targeted assistance that addresses people’s specific problems. This is also how the Charity Foundation “Stabilization Support Services” team works, including in Kherson.

Our team works with charitable organizations on projects to distribute food kits, as well as family, hygiene, and other types of kits. Volunteers usually help distribute humanitarian aid and organize people, says Valentyna Kosiuk, local coordinator of the Lifesaving Response to Protection Risks and Humanitarian Needs of Conflict-Affected Population in South and South-East of Ukraine project.

We use both our own contacts and monitor volunteer organizations in the region for cooperation. We also know people who are members of the Kherson Oblast Volunteer Council.

According to Valentyna, establishing communication with local volunteers is not difficult since many of them have been through the occupation or are just motivated to help and support the residents of the Khersonska Oblast.

“Our Khersonska Oblast has suffered a lot: first, it went through the occupation, then the hydroelectric power plant was blown up. People have needs, and volunteers are helping as much as they can now. During the occupation, there was nothing here as they prevented the delivery of food and medicine. Now that communications are more or less established, the question of reconstruction emerges. The infrastructure and residential buildings are very badly damaged. This is what motivates us to help,” says the coordinator.

The Lifesaving Response to Protection Risks and Humanitarian Needs of Conflict-Affected Population in South and South-East of Ukraine project is being implemented by the Charity Foundation “Stabilization Support Services” in cooperation with the international humanitarian organization CARE with the financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
