IDP Councils play an important role in the integration and protection of the rights of internally displaced persons. To help as many people as possible learn how this consultative and advisory body works and become agents of change in their communities, we have developed a video training course entitled “IDP Councils: From Adaptation to Impact.” To date, more than 2,500 people have completed the course.
We are sharing the feedback of those who have completed the course. This time, Maryna Ivanushkina, chair of the IDP Council under the Bakhmut City Military Administration, shares her feedback.
“The video training coursewill help you quickly understand how IDP Councils work. The materials are presented in an easy and engaging way, and the topics are well-chosen, providing answers to key questions: how to organize the work, why it is important to the community, and what results can be achieved. I would like to separately note the format of short videos, which allows you to learn on the go: on the road, during a walk, or at home. Thanks to this, you can find time for professional development even in a busy schedule.
The sixth episode, ‘Effective Communication,’ resonated with me the most. Our IDP Council is unique because we work with a relocated administration, and all residents of the Bakhmut community, as well as the members of our Council, are internally displaced persons in different regions of Ukraine. That is why one of the priorities of our work is to establish sustainable communication with host communities, local and regional IDP Councils. Our experience demonstrates that a well-developed communication system is a crucial factor in the development of effective integration policies.
I highly recommend this video course to anyone interested in developing their community. It will help local government representatives see IDP Councils as reliable partners. For displaced persons, it will open up the council as a platform for exchanging ideas and protecting their interests. The series will show the public sector what additional resources are available for developing joint policies to protect the rights of IDPs and involve them in full-fledged community life.”
