“We Have Returned to Rebuild Our Homes, and We Need Help”

The Foundation continues to provide assistance with minor repairs to those whose homes have been damaged by the war. This week, we assessed the damage in the apartment of Mrs. Svitlana, who lives with her husband and father in the village of Luch in the Shevchenkivska community of Mykolaivska Oblast. During the occupation, the village was on the frontline. That is why the family had to leave; for some time, all three lived in Mykolaiv. After the deoccupation of Kherson, Mrs. Svitlana and her husband returned home and are now trying to rebuild their home.

Their house has endured several hits. On the one hand, they have a kindergarten, and on the other hand, a school: those are the places Russians often target. The most recent large-scale strike occurred at the end of last summer. The shockwave smashed all the windows and doors, destroyed the balcony, and damaged the appliances, which are now out of order. The family says that since then, they have been able to repair the balcony and replace one window and the front door.

“We have returned to rebuild our home, and we need help. We have no regular income, and now we have two windows in the kitchen and hall, as well as a balcony door, completely smashed,” says Svitlana. “ Our house has been shelled from all sides. During the last strike, my husband and I crawled down the stairs to the basement. My father is unable to move quickly, so he stayed in the hallway of the apartment.”

The enterprise where Svitlana worked is now destroyed, and her husband is looking for various part-time jobs.

Assistance will be provided within the Providing Multi-Sectoral Humanitarian Assistance to Conflict-Affected Populations in Ukraine project, implemented by the Charity Foundation “Stabilization Support Services” together with the humanitarian organization CARE Ukraine and the Response Consortium. The Program is being implemented with the financial support of the USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA).
