“We Received the Kit Four Months Ago, but We Are Still Using Everything It Has.”

Residents of the Shevchenkivska community in Mykolaivska Oblast have received humanitarian aid kits designed to ease their lives in the challenging conditions near the front lines. These kits include sleeping bags, portable lamps and flashlights, cookware, a portable gas stove, and more. Our Foundation distributed the kits as part of the Providing Multi-Sectoral Humanitarian Assistance to Conflict-Affected Populations in Ukraine project.

One of the recipients was Tetiana (name changed for safety reasons), who lives with her husband and two sons. According to her, the kit has been extremely helpful for their family. Their income is unstable, as the husband is the only one who earns money from odd jobs. Tetiana takes care of their children, who study online and still try to attend extracurricular activities despite the challenges.

“We received the kit four months ago, but we are still using everything it has. The flashlight and lamp are constantly useful. When the electricity goes out, we cook on the portable gas stove from the kit, as we don’t have a central gas supply. The cookware is also in regular use. The children use the thermoses daily. They’re durable — the boys have dropped them a few times, but they’re still holding up well,” Tetiana shares. “I remember that there were no queues during distribution; everything was handed out quickly, and we were on our way. We are very grateful for this help.”

During the occupation of Kherson, the family evacuated but later returned home. The sons continue to study online at the local school, so according to Tetiana, the power bank from the kit is very useful. Although the boys were offered to attend a mobile school, due to safety concerns, the family prefers to keep them studying online for now.

The Providing Multi-Sectoral Humanitarian Assistance to Conflict-Affected Populations in Ukraine project is being implemented by the Charity Foundation “Stabilization Support Services” in cooperation with the humanitarian organization CARE Ukraine and the Response Consortium. The program is financially supported by USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA).
